CENTURIA I · QUATRAIN VIII
The City of the Sun
Combien de fois prinse citu00e9 solaire,
Seras changeant les loix barbares & vaines:
Ton mal s'approche. Plus sera tributaire,
La grand Hadrie recourira des veines.
How many times, city of the Sun, taken captive,
shalt thou be changing laws barbarous and vain:
thy ill approaches. More shalt thou be tributary,
the great Hadrie will course through thy veins.
THE MASTER SAYS…
This quatrain describes the events of World War I and the events of World War II, as well as events provoked by the Antichrist. When he says “city of the Sun,” he means Paris, because he foresaw the presence of the Sun King in Paris, which made it the city of the Sun. He says that throughout the twentieth century the city was invaded, conquered and re-captured many times. But he says that in the end it will stand. It will not be completely destroyed like some other cities. By Adrian he means Adrian, the lawgiver. He lived in the ancient world. He was the first great lawgiver who created a very just and effective system of laws. Using the name as an anagram, he symbolically pointed to the one who will help restore peace after the Antichrist, who will be a great lawgiver. Translators interpreted Adrian as King Henry IV of France. It is obvious that your contemporaries are not educated in ancient history and cannot grasp the parallels between past and present. He works a great deal with mythology and ancient history — subjects we no longer study. The opportunity to study exists, but people are lazy.
