CENTURIA III · QUATRAIN LXXIII
The Bastard Rival
Quand dans la regne parviendra la boiteux,
Competiteur aura proche bastard:
Lui & le regne viendront si fort roigneux,
Qu'ains qu'il guerisse son faict sera bien tard.
When into the reign comes the lame one,
a rival will have a bastard near:
he and the realm will grow so scabby
that before he heals, his case will be too late.
THE MASTER SAYS…
Many of his quatrains relate to both the future and the past. This quatrain relates to French history, and also to the French Pope. He will face rivalry in the papal entourage. He will hurt the feelings of many people in his struggle for the papal tiara. He is the illegitimate son of a cardinal who rose from the level of clergyman to the level of cardinal. Like a dog, he will always be at the feet of this French Pope. They will not get along. He will also remind him that it was through him that he seized the papal tiara.
