CENTURIA IV · QUATRAIN XVI
The Free City
La cite franche de liberte fait serve,
Des profliges & resveurs faict asile:
Le Roy change a eux non si proterve
De cent seront devenus plus de mille.
The free city of liberty made subject,
for the outcast and dreamers made an asylum:
the King changed, to them not so harsh
from a hundred they will have become more than a thousand.
THE MASTER SAYS…
This quatrain relates to the flowering of Paris as a cultural center. Has this already taken place in our past? Yes. You see, Paris was an administrative and religious center in his time, but in the late 1800s Paris changed and became the artistic capital of the world. It was a very important place for art and culture. He also says that kings ignored craftsmen and creative people until their talents could be put into their service. This quatrain predicts a change from one king to another, from the old monarchical type of rule to a more free democratic process. So the numbers have no meaning other than simply speaking of growth… Of the birth of the French capital as a cultural center. Translators attributed this quatrain to completely different events.
