CENTURIA I · QUATRAIN LXXVI

The Fates’ Favor

D'un nom farouche tel profu00e9ru00e9 sera,

Que les trois soeurs auront fato le nom:

Puis grand peuple par langue & faict dira,

Plus que nul autre bruit & renom.

Of a savage name such a one shall be spoken,

that the three sisters will have fated the name:

then a great people by tongue & deed shall say

more than any other, his noise & renown.

THE MASTER SAYS…

Nostradamus says that this quatrain describes the rise of the Antichrist’s fame. The three sisters personify the Three Fates: the first unfolds the line of life, the second is responsible for its duration, and the third stops this development at a certain point. He says that, despite the abuse of power, this man is destined to become a world leader. He will have an unusually long name, and if one analyzes the genealogy of his name, it will give a key to understanding his behavior. Nostradamus says that different names of people can imply completely different things; for example, names like Leonard or Leo mean something lion-like or royal. At the root of his name is hidden a hint of what exactly he may accomplish. Everything will depend on the decision he makes: to side with good or with evil. Furthermore, the Antichrist will be obsessed with old, long-forgotten traditions that no one has followed for a long time. Translators claim that this refers to Napoleon, since his name derives from a Greek word meaning “destroyer” or “terminator.” Nostradamus says that these bad character traits, but only in a more terrible form, will also be inherent in the Antichrist.
