The Corrupted Verse
Amour alegre non loing pose le siege,
Au sainct barbar seront les garnisons,
Ursins Hadrie pour Galois feront plaige,
Pour peur rendus de lu2019armee du Grisons.
Joyous love will not hold the siege for long,
at the Saint Barbar will be the garrisons,
Ursins and Hadrie will give pledge for the French,
for fear surrendered to the army of the Grisons.
THE MASTER SAYS…
He is not sure, perhaps… the text did not reach us accurately over the centuries, because, according to him, it is not connected. He says that he could not imagine a counterfeiter being so bold. The whole thing. Yes, he is chewing his mustache. He says that this quatrain appears to be distorted. The only meaning he can extract from it relates to the Roman legions and the Roman Empire when they were in southern France. But, as we both know, that was quite long ago. It was even before his time. He is not sure whether it is a mistranslation or perhaps a very clever forgery that accidentally got into the text and survived for several centuries. He says that he does not dare call it a forgery. He suspects that most likely it was a case of erroneous copying in the past, and this erroneous translation was carried to other places, and then distorted and translated with a completely unclear meaning. He said that he would not call it quite accurate. He said that if they had come down quite accurately, you would not have had to turn to him for translation. He said that, at least, one can work with it.
