CENTURIA II · QUATRAIN X
The Sinister Century
Avant long temps le tout sera rangu00e9,
Nous esperons un siu00e8cle bien senestre:
L'estat des masques & des seuls bien changu00e9,
Peu trouveront qu'u00e0 son rang veuille estre.
Before long the whole shall be set in order,
we expect a century most sinister:
the state of the masked & the solitaries much changed,
few shall be found who wish to keep their rank.
THE MASTER SAYS…
This quatrain relates to a series of events, some of which have already taken place, and some of which are only now occurring. In general, it concerns various revolutions and social reforms that took place in Asia throughout the twentieth century. The state changing from clandestine and secluded concerns the abolition of the caste system in India. The quatrain also refers to various revolutions occurring in the Middle East, especially the Iranian Revolution. The phrase “few will want to retain their rank” relates to the new regime that will be established in Iran after the Shah. Those who were in power during the Shah’s rule tried to hide their positions and renounce any connection with him, so they could retain what they could. A very disastrous century is the time that is coming, including the time leading up to it. The twentieth century, starting from… well, the whole century, but mainly starting from World War II, was not particularly peaceful. Therefore he speaks of it as disastrous. From World War II to the end (of the century), unrest will accompany this century.
