The Half-Pig Elder
Grand excercite conduict par jouvenceau,
Se viendra rendre aux mains des ennemis:
Mais le vieillard ne au demi-porceau,
Fera Chalon & Mascon estre amis.
A great army led by a young man
will come to surrender into the enemy's hands:
but the old man born to the half-pig
will make Chalon and Macon friends.
THE MASTER SAYS…
This quatrain also relates to the past. It concerns France surrendering to Germany during World War II. I see that the half-pig symbolizes Nazism for him. He says that they behaved like pigs. The young man belongs to the noble young men of the French army, who at that time was forced to leave France. It was a very bad time in the history of France. The old man who surrendered also allowed the young men to surrender, caused a feeling of dishonor. There are tears in his eyes. This is because for him it will be a dark period in the future of France. He is very saddened by this.
