CENTURIA VI · QUATRAIN XXVII

The Crescent Harbor

Dedans les isles de cinq fleuves a un,

Par le croissant du grand Chyren Selin:

Par les bruines de l'air fureur de l'un,

Six eschapes, caches fardeaux de lin.

Within the isles of five rivers into one,

through the crescent of the great Chyren Selin:

through the mists of the air the fury of the one,

six escape, hidden in bundles of flax.

THE MASTER SAYS…

Brenda said: “He says that this is a reference to the bombing of Hiroshima in Japan. ‘The fury of one’ refers to the first atomic bomb. ‘Five rivers in sum give one’ is a description of the city. It is a port city where the main river, descending from the mountains, branches out and flows around several islands. And there are many bridges in the city. He says that ‘six escaped, hiding in bundles of flax’ is the crew of the bomber. He used this analogy with flax — firstly, in his time there were no airplanes, so he could not depict an airplane well. But flax, from which cloth, linen cloth, is made, would be similar to what the six wore. And from bundles of flax cloth is made. So, he saw their uniforms and flight jackets… they were made of waterproof material. He says that the crescent refers to the shape of the harbor. He says that Chyren Selin has a double meaning. On the one hand, it refers to the effect of hard radiation on people. And on the other, to how many inhabitants of the city tried to escape the scorching fury by drowning in the rivers on and around the islands. He says that Chyren is the watchdog of Hades in Greek mythology. It refers to the river. Yes. He says that he often uses Greek mythology as symbolism, because it can be used allegorically. He says that this is true. People of our era are not used to thinking allegorically, so they fail to make the connection. People of his era would find it easier to make this connection, because they were used to allegorical teaching and to scholarly people presenting things allegorically. He says that this is foolish, and twirls his mustache.”
