CENTURIA VI · QUATRAIN LXI
The Folded Carpet
Le grand tappis plie ne monstrera,
Fois qu'a demi la plus part de l'histoire:
Chasse du regne loing aspre apparoistra
Qu'au faict bellique chascun le viendra croire.
The great carpet folded will show nothing,
or but half the greater part of the story:
Banished far from the realm, a harsh truth will appear,
till in the warlike deed each comes to believe it.
THE MASTER SAYS…
Brenda said: “He says that this verse relates to the development of the atomic bomb. ‘The folded carpet, only half, will show’ means that everything was done under strict secrecy. Part of the team in one place did not know what another part of the team was developing in another place, because the government insisted on such strict secrecy. For example, the people at Los Alamos, New Mexico, did not know what was happening at Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The government stated that they could not communicate with each other about it because it was classified. Yes. Also the carpet symbolizes all knowledge as a whole, woven together to form the entire project. But when it was folded, it was divided into compartments, each hidden from the others, so that only part of it could be seen at one time. For the most part, the history of such a powerful weapon and its development has always been completely secret. Even the people involved see only part of the picture. He says that many scientists had moral questions about using such a powerful force for war. The leader had to be very strict with them and conduct many encouraging conversations to convince them of the importance of ending the war early with this force.”
