CENTURIA VI · QUATRAIN XCIV
The Poisoned Strawberries
Un Roi ire sera aux sedifragues,
Quant interdicts seront harnois de guerre:
La poison taincte au succre par les fragues
Par eaux meutris, mors, disant serre, serre.
An angry King will be at the sedifragues,
When the harness of war is laid under interdict:
Poison dyed with sugar upon the strawberries,
Murdered by the waters, dying, saying: tight, tight.
THE MASTER SAYS…
Brenda said: “He says that this verse relates to the nuclear accident that occurred in Russia last year (1986). The king’s anger at the sedifragues means that the head of the Soviet Union is in conflict with the council. The sedifragues, he says, is an ancient Greek designation of a Russian title that would be appropriate; this council is the name of the position these people hold. Yes. He says that the lack of military weapons refers to the reduction of nuclear weapons. Death from water refers to the radioactive water that got onto the power plant during the accident. And how it began to get into local reservoirs and kill wildlife and the like. This refers to radiation affecting food and everything else. The strawberries will remain sweet, but will be poisoned. He says that this is because they assume that all his thoughts sound French. He says: ‘Do they not know that a properly educated gentleman studies many languages?'”
