Where Meat Yields To Fish
Es lieux & temps chair un poisson donra lieu,
La loi commune sera faicte au contraire:

In places and times flesh shall give way to fish,
The common law will be made to the contrary:
The old one will hold fast, more cast out of the midst,

THE MASTER SAYS…
This quatrain relates to the growth and development of communism in the Soviet Union. “In those places and times where meat gives way to fish”? This symbolizes the backwoods. He shows me pictures of tundra, ice, snow. What does “gives way to fish” mean? The land extends to the Arctic Ocean and that type of water. He points to the region. This is how he designates Russia. For him it is so. This is one of his hidden meanings. But this image symbolizes the Soviet Union and the rise of communism. Translators write the word “Friends” with a capital letter and say that it refers to communism. They came close to the meaning in their interpretation, but they think that it symbolizes the decline of communism. Wishful thinking! (Laughter). Then he is not speaking of an imminent decline?
