CENTURIA IX · QUATRAIN XCII

The New City

Le roi vouldra dans cite neuf entrer,

Par ennemis expugner lon viendra,

Captif libere faulx dire & perpetrer,

Roi dehors estre, loin d'ennemis tiendra.

The king will wish to enter the city new,

through enemies, one shall come to expel him,

a captive freed, false sayings and deeds,

the king, remaining outside, shall hold far from his enemies.

THE MASTER SAYS…

He acknowledges that he often refers to the “new city,” but it is not always New York. What is described in this quatrain has already passed. This event took place during the French Revolution. The phrase “new city” refers to Paris after the lower classes overthrew the higher classes, seizing and radically changing everything. Since it was a completely new social order, he referred to it as the “new city.” The king wanted to make peace with the peasants and preserve royal power. He freed an orator from the Bastille, who had been falsely imprisoned and then falsely freed, because this orator was from the peasants. The king thought that if he demonstrated his mercy, he would win the population over to his point of view. Once the role of this prisoner was fulfilled, he was to be executed. The king himself was safe while he controlled the situation. He does not say which king, he just said “king.” This refers to Louis XVI. He does not want to discuss this quatrain further, since he has given the key, and those interested can study historical texts.
